So, you'd like to add a spiffy neckline to your tunic without using bias tape. OK, Let's Go!
First you need to cut out a piece of fabric larger than the size of the neck hole opening in the tunic.
It can help to put some pins down to hold the neck hole open.
You can use dressmaker's chalk to help you mark the opening, then cut a few extra inches beyond that.
***See bottom for my alternate paper method.
Now you need to cut out the neck opening from your insert. When you cut around the chalk mark, remember to leave extra space on the inside, for seam allowance!
Now, with the tunic still right side out, pin this insert around the neck opening, pinning the chalk line to the edge of the tunic fabric.
Sew.
Now all you need to do is flip that insert into the tunic, and you're done! You can stitch the insert down on the outside if you'd like.

***If you don't have any chalk, you can try the paper method. Lay down the neck opening over a piece of paper, and trace the circle. Cut out the circle.
Now, instead of using the chalk line as a guide, user the paper edge as a guide. Remember to allow that seam allowance, and cut out a circle.
Then move out a couple more inches, and cut out the bigger, outer circle. (Sorry if the above image is confusing. I had cut the outside part before the inside. You can do that too if it's easier!)
You are left with the perfect sized neck insert.
Return to the guide above for the next step!***
